142nd Anniversary Celebration, November 11

Each November we celebrate the anniversary of the founding of the First Moravian Church.  Much like our celebration of Christmas in December of each year (nobody really knows the date of Jesus' birth), we celebrate in November because it has become a tradition to do so.  The first Moravian service in our community was on May 4th in 1862, and the congregation was actually formed on New Year's Eve, 1865.

So, once again, this year, we invite you to plan on joining in the festivities for our 142nd Anniversary Celebration, on Sunday, November 11:

  • Worship with Holy Communion at 11:00 AM

  • 142nd Anniversary Lovefeast at 4:00 PM

    • Rev. Linda Wood, Pastor of Zion Lutheran Church here in Riverside will be our speaker

    • Special Music by Choir

  • Celebration Dinner following the afternoon service

We are pleased to invite all of our friends and neighbors to a special, uniquely Moravian celebration.

The subject matter will be fairly basic. The sessions will cover the following:

    • The time value of money

    • Deciding on what you can afford

  • Session three:  Basic investing for the future

The key to success of these workshops will be lots of questions.  Plan to come and participate.

Dear Brothers and Sisters Mission Project

Two years ago, our congregation made the commitment to adopt a village in Tanzania.  This adoption through the Dear Brothers and Sisters program is structured in three year blocks of time with a commitment of $1,000 a year to support the families caring for the orphans within Mlogolo.  The second year of our commitment resulted in our providing $1,000 for our village and an additional $798.92 to be utilized elsewhere for other children.

Additionally, the Board of World Missions has established a prevention program for pregnant women and an AIDS Orphan Support network in the Western Province of Tanzania.

Thank you for helping to care for the children so deeply affected by the AIDS epidemic and the families that care for them.

Women's Fellowship

Our Women's Fellowship is up and running, under the joint leadership of Leanne Fleming and Kris Van Orden.  Lots of activities are "in the works" for the coming year.  The next meeting will be held:

Date: Sunday, November 25th
Time:  7:00 PM (Come at 6:00, bring a sandwich and enjoy fellowship beforehand - drinks will be provided)
Place: Hahle Hall

Mid-Week Prayer Service

Each Wednesday evening we will be gathering for mid-week evening prayer.  The service begins at 6:15 PM.  We will be spending time listening to prayerful music, meditating in silence, reflecting on a text for the week and engaging in intercessory prayer.

Those of us who have participated in this service have found that it helps us maintain our spiritual health.  Plan on joining us if you can.  All are welcome.  If 6:15 is too early for you, you may quietly join us later.  The service concludes at 7:00.
